Nfisa Shah meets hunger striker peasants

Khairpur, June 21, 2009: PPP MNA Nafisa Shah has said that an inquiry should be conducted to find out how the funds of three crore rupees released each year for SCARP tube-wells are spent; and why still the SCARP tube-wells remain out of order. She assured that she would take efforts to provide irrigation water to the tail-end abadgars of Sobhodero and Faiz Gunj talukas.

Ms Shah expressed these views during her visit of the abadgars’ hunger-strike camp in Sukkur on Sunday. The abadgars led by peasant leader comrade Ghulam Rasool Sahito have been observing life-long hunger strike for 33 days now.

She said that committee would be formed which would conduct inquiry about the SCARP tube-wells and tail-end abadgars’ problem of irrigation water shortage; therein the abadgars observing hunger strike would also be included. She said that it is matter of great concern that despite imposition of section 144 in district Khairpur the paddy crop is still being sown and watered.

She said that comrade Sahito and other abadgars who have been on hunger-strike since last 33 days are doing so on burning-issues of abadgars. She added that if the problems of abadgars are resolved it would also be beneficial for government.
Ms. Shah reached the abadgars’ hunger-strike camp along-with a delegation from Khairpur and after her talks with them comrade Sahito and other abadgars ended their hunger-strike on Sunday.
